Are you afraid of snakes? Have you been up close to a snake and wondered what kind it is? Would you like to get closer to a snake? This is a class for you. John Barnes (JBSRattles.com) is bringing his native and exotic snakes and some other critters to the VBSPCA on Sunday, April 20. He will give a presentation on identification, proper handling, and answer all your questions. No registration required. Free, but donations are always welcome. 1:00 - 3:00.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to successfully raise an orphaned
songbird? If you routinely find orphaned wildlife, are the wildlife
"Go To" person in your neighborhood, or would like to volunteer with
the VBSPCA Wildlife Program, then this is the class for you. Basic
information needed to properly feed orphaned songbirds will be
covered. The class is free and available to anyone wanting to learn
proper techniques, and is also a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to
assist with feeding wildlife onsite at the VBSPCA for the 2008 season
or wishing to become a volunteer wildlife rehabilitator. January 29th
at 5:30 pm.
Advance registration is required. Please contact
specialprojects@vbspca.com for registration information.
Our volunteers are a group of dedicated people who offer their services to help orphaned and injured wildlife. Many of our transport and rehabilitator volunteers also work fulltime.
Transporters deliver wildlife from the shelter to area rehabilitators and are asked to take a minimum of 3 shifts per month. Our wildlife rehabilitators receive full training and assistance in obtaining the proper permits to care for orphaned and injured wildlife until they can be released. If you are over 21 years of age, a Hampton Roads resident, and interested in exploring volunteer opportunities within the VBSPCA Wildlife Program, please contact the VBSPCA for more information on how you can help.
The Cat's Meow will be hosting a fundraiser at the Wildlife Art exhibition October 5th from 6-8 pm to benefit the VBSPCA Wildlife Program. Wildlife art, displays and a silent auction will be available. The Wildlife Art exhibition continues through October 9 - November 3, 2007 and is free and open to the public. The event will be held at The Artists Gallery, 608 Norfolk Avenue, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451. 425-6671
